Brain Injury
My name is Thomas-I had a Traumatic Brain
Injury Spring of '98.
In a morgue, I was given zero chance of
survival. I fooled everyone. ;-)
Over the years I have made that the focus of
TotemWood, a partial focus, and now? Really I could care
less. However some folks may have an interest, so I will
put some stuff about mine, here from time to time.
I consider myself disABLED. Why?
Because I live independently-contrary to what was ever
expected. I have fought very hard to do that.
I continue to fight hard to be able to do that.
If I quit fighting? Yea, I will wind up back
where I started.
I do NOT want to go back there.
So most of my life is a fight, though
it may not on the surface look like it.
I try to ensure that as
well.-shrug
Who the heck gives a darn???
Heck, even I DON'T!
I work to do the very best I can-and
eventually run out of "steam" or "brain bucks" or what ever.
Sometimes quick, sometimes slow," and I do not always know when
that will happen. It can sometimes make me so angry at
myself!
There are folks who have and will try to take
advantage of that. So I must try to be very careful-yet my
inner principles require that I be as open and
honest as possible as well. Even when I get things
w-w-wrong. -looking at my feet.
I gave up driving, and found i had enough
"brains" to start slowly, being able to shave. whoa.
no biggie for YOU maybe, for me though? sorta neat.
Stuff that is EZ for most folks, may not be
that way for me. Took me four years to get beyond cooking
hot dogs or hamburgers. -shrug. Hhhhhhh! LOL!
I laugh nowww, back then I feared I would be caught, and sent
BACK to adult care home! -Seriously. grrrrrrr...
My home looks like a tornado hit it.
Sorry. Organization is not my forte. And yea, often
it is best to keep things OUT IN FRONT OF ME, so I can SEE THEM.
Ugh, House Beautiful my home is not.
There is a reason for that-so I have brains to
do this web site, and carve a bit of wood, like canes, and yea
now? RIDE A TRIKE! 8-) Or at least work at it!
Often I must take naps. Meds are not my
idea of fun, but otoh? Neither are seizures. -bah! I
used to make a darn good wage, and dropped it to go and get my
teachers cert, to make another darned good wage. W00ps,
brain injury really messed that up-BELIEVE ME!
Being disABLED was NOT my choice.
I continue to look for work arounds-finally
after 11 years? I have decided that I was allowed, one
that included FUN.

'Nuff, at least there is something here about
brain injury now eh?
Thank you for reading... :--)
Sincerely,
Thomas 4/16/09
